How to Clean a Chandelier

Nothing is more beautiful than a sparkling crystal chandelier. But how to clean?

  • To clean individual prisms, place them in a strainer or fry basket and dunk them several times in a solution of dishwasher detergent and boiling water.  Rinse in very hot water and drain in a strainer or on toweling.
  • Lay them flat in net bags on the top shelf of your dishwasher. (The net bags you use to wash delicate items in your washing machine work fine).
  • Cover the table with a drop cloth and spray the chandelier with 3 parts boiling water and 1 part rubbing alcohol.  Let air dry.  (Use distilled water if you have hard water that spots).
  • For chandeliers with larger pieces, fill a pitcher or bottle with water as above and dip each piece in the container.  Air dry.
